Jay Feinberg is a leukemia survivor. When Jay was first diagnosed he was told that his only hope for survival was a bone marrow transplant. Massive screenings were organized by his friends and family, more than 55,000 people were tested. At a very last drive, as Feinberg's condition was rapidly deteriorating, a match was found.
Jay spoke to our students and his message, just as we prepare to celebrate the miracles of Purim, was especially meaningful. There was an unbelievably emotional moment in the program when Jay, in referring to the power of one person, called upon Rabbi Yigal Sklarin. Unbeknownst to anyone, Rabbi Sklarin, was a “perfect match” and saved a person’s life through the Gift of Life.
Jay’s experience led him to devote his life to educating and encouraging people to add themselves to bone marrow registries around the world. The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation, of which he is founder and director, seeks to increase the number of registered Jews, many of whom lack extended family because of the Holocaust.
